Where the Wild Things Are
How exciting! I never read this book as a child but I wish I had. The movie looks absolutely amazing. The scenery, the creatures, everything. The story is incredible, the effects look amazing...I don't know how this could possibly be a bad movie. I am so so so so so so so excited for this movie. More than Zombieland? Possibly.

Teeth
Make a list of movies that boys would hate. Guaranteed, if you have seen Teeth, this movie will top your list.
The movie is about a high school girl who is taught to practice abstinence through her high school and her religious background. She meets a religious boy who starts to push her a little bit too far, and she realizes that she has something "different" about her. AKA her vagina has teeth.
The rest of the movie shows the girl meeting with different boys, having sex with them...And well, you can guess the rest I'm sure.
I'm still not sure whether this movie was meant to be a joke or if it's meant to be taken seriously. Either way it was hilarious. Completely unrealistic (although there is an entire wikipedia page dedicated to this medical condition...Look it up. It's called "vagina dentata"), but so good for a laugh.
I also can't really make up my mind as to whether this movie is a feminist or anti-feminist statement. It was directed by male...But that doesn't really mean much in regards to feminism because there are some men who consider themselves to be feminist. So who knows!
If you've never seen the movie, I highly suggest checking it out. Whether you're a buy or a girl, I'm sure you'll find some enjoyment in the ridiculousness of the whole situation.

Dance of the Dead
I posted a blog earlier saying everyone should watch Masters of Horror.
I watched Dance of the Dead (the episode from season 1) for the second time yesterday. It's based on a Richard Matheson book and directed by Tobe Hooper (<3). It's pretty awesome. Other than the horrible acting. but robert englund has a guest role in it (also <3) and the story line is pretty cool.
check it out for sure!

Gnaw
Gnaw is an independent British movie. Short. Which is good.
The movie is about an unkillable, superhuman, masked psychopath who stalks and kills 6 vacationing teens. The teens are so stereotypical. The horny couple, the rebellious loner girl, the bitch, the man-whore and the shy one with on the rebellious loner girl. Sound familiar? It's very TCM-ish. Actually there's really nothing that sets it apart from TCM. Not much originality. Although there is a wicked acid scene. And the ending is a little bit ridiculous.
Not really worth watching if you like TCM. Because it's basically a direct rip-off. But if you've never seen that then by all means, you may love Gnaw.

reading!
I just finished American Psycho. It was ever bit as amazing as I hoped it would be. There were moments where I had to stop reading because everything got so graphic. It's definitely a worth while read if you can get past those parts. It messed with my head in so many ways that I didn't even know a book could!
My next read is a novel my friend is writing. I've started reading it, and it's really great so far! I'm looking forward to what come next :)
And then after that...A little Clive Barker...in the form of Mister B Gone. I don't really know why but everytime I see a picture of Clive Barker, I think of my third year romantics professor.
Gregory Betts anyone?

movie geek
I feel like I have been living my life in the movie theater lately. In the past few weeks I have seen Drag Me To Hell (twice), Up, The Hangover, Terminator, and X-Men. not that I mind or anything...I do feel like a huge dork though. And there are still so many coming out that I want to see. Transformers! Dead Snow! Public Enemies! Inglorious Basterds! Bruno! Funny People! District 9! Halloween 2 (although I'm kind of expecting this to be dumb. which breaks my heart because I love Rob Zombie so much)!
Out of all the movies that I've recently seen, I'm going to have to say that Drag Me To Hell is my favourite. Surprise! The horror fan likes the horror movie the most! It's the first GOOD horror movie I've seen in a long while.
I'm especially excited for Dead Snow. It's about zombie Nazis. I don't know if it looks more funny than awesome, or more awesome than funny. I don't know if I should be taking it seriously or not. Either way though, it does look amazing. If you haven't seen the trailer yet, ch-ch-check it!:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-KQh87_V2Q
Inglorious Basterds also looks incredible! Brad Pitt + Quentin Tarantino = amazing! Coincidentally, this movie is also about Nazis...I wonder how many more Nazi movies will come out within the next year. Could this be the next vampire craze? I hope not. This isn't really a horror movie at all, but it does look bloody and brutal, Tarantino style. how could I not be pumped about this one? Anyway here is the trailer for that one too. Because it is also awesome:

I'm not too sure how to feel about this new Halloween movie. The only trailer that I can find makes it seem like this movie is going to be horrible. They're trying to bring the dead mother into it to make it seem like that's why he's killing people...But wasn't that the plot of Friday the 13th? I don't understand. It makes me sad because Rob Zombie is one of my favourite horror directors, but this looks like it may be a disappointment. I guess if I go into it thinking that it won't be very good, I may end up being pleasantly surprised. have faith in the Zombie!:

The Poughkeepsie Tapes
Before even thinking about watching this movie, note that this is NOT a true story. NOT. It's based on facts that may have actually happened in connection with other serial killers, but this whole story is not fact. Kind of like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Alot of people went into the movie thinking that this was going to be a true story and they ended up hating it because they didn't expect to see actors.
I first heard about it last winter and have been waiting to hear more about it ever since! I thought it would get a theatrical debut, but I guess it wasn't big enough to get there. It's a very low budget movie, and you can tell as it's recorded in the same style as the Blair Witch Project, with a video camera. The plot focuses on a serial killer who videotapes all of his murders. at one point in the movie they say that there were over 24 hours of video containing kidnapping and murders. In between clips of these videos is footage of interviews with police and family members and friends of the victims. The actual footage is terrifying. I JUST finished it so I still have the images in my head! There is no way I will sleep normally tonight. The interviews are haunting. To keep in mind that some of the things taking place actually have happened, it will terrify you. The first murder that takes place is eerily similar to the Tori Stafford case. That part hits close to home and makes the rest of the movie seem like a bad dream. The ending of the movie is when it starts to get really messed up, when the killer starts to do crazy things to some of the people he is murdering. There are some slow parts but it's worth getting through to get to the end.

Drag Me To Hell
I have been excited about this movie since I first heard Raimi was doing another horror movie. And he did not disappoint.
I can't even count how many tines I jumped throughout the entire movie. When the movie's title showed up on the screen it scared me. And the scares just kept coming and coming and coming. The entire movie jumps out at you.
The special effects in the movie were so Sam Raimi. slime, blood, goo EVERYWHERE! It was very Evil Dead-esque but so cool because all those special effects seem to be updated. His style is still the exact same, just more modern. The majority of the people in the theater were having difficulty deciding whether the effects were grossing them out or making them laugh. You could hear people yelling "SO GROSS!" while laughing at the same time.
The one-liners that some of the characters said at the most random times in the movie were just hilarious too. And there's a pretty epic battle in a car between the main character and the old lady.
Some of the scenes in the movie even remind me of Evil Dead. Seances, possessions...So much like his first movies but they don't get old.
I read on IMDB that Bruce Campbell would not be making an appearance in the movie as he was too busy with another project he is working on, but I still studied the faces of every new character that popped out screen. IMDB was correct though. There was no Bruce; the only thing the movie was lacking.
The movie was only rated PG-13, which meant the theater was full of teeny-boppers screaming at every little thing. But if you can tune them out, or go to a matinee, it's a horror movie that you should definitely see.
I hope Raimi sticks with making horror. And if he DOES Evil Dead 4... wow. i can't wait! :)

Terminator: Salvation
Plans of seeing Terminator in IMAX didn't really work out. Which sucked. But it's alright. I'm glad I saw it, either way.
I have never seen a Terminator movie before this one. Not one. So I had really no idea what to expect walking into the theater, other than I was about to see some cool special effects go down. I was definitely impressed though. At the beginning of the movie they give you a short rundown of the background story, and they kept it short and sweet. After the few paragraphs at the beginning, I had no problem following the story and who the characters were talking about. There really wasn't much purpose to the plot at all. Basically, John Connor had to save his father (who is younger than him) and send him back to the past so John Connor could exist. But you never see the dad get sent back...I wonder where that will go...
The special effects in the movie were amazing. They were very well done. Remember two-face from The Dark Knight? Yeah. He ain't got shit on the Terminators in this movie. Actually I thought two-face was a joke when I saw him but that's besides the point. The effects were great. Tons of cool explosions and amazing make-up techniques.
There are some awesome surprises in the movie too...More for people who have seen the old movies but I still got them and I've never seen one.
Definitely check the movie out. It was totally worth it.

Lunch break!
So I'm on my lunch break from work and I figured I would update even though I really have nothing much to say. I somehow need to figure out how to change the layout of this page so it's not so harsh on the eyes...And maybe throw a few skulls in there or something too!
Although it's not very horror related, I AM going to see Terminator in I-MAX this weekend! Which should be spectacular. Christian Bale is always spectacular...freak outs and everything. Speaking of Christian Bale, I should hunt down a cheap copy of the American Psycho movie. If you have never seen it I HIGHLY suggest renting it this weekend if you have some free time. In a nutshell, Christian Bale plays this completely self-obssessed business man who goes insane. It's based on the book (which I recently bought! can't wait to read it!) by Bret Easton Ellis. I've read one of his books before, Less Than Zero, and if that is any indication of how American Psycho will be, then I'm in for a majorly messed up read.
Short post, but I'll be back with more. In the meantime...For your viewing pleasure:

The beginning
The first entry is always the hardest to write. But they say that once you get past that it just gets easier. So here it goes!
I'm going to update the blog every so often about horror movies and books and t.v. shows that I watch or read. Or any horror events/news that I find interesting. And if you're interested in them too then I'd love to have you read the blog and leave some cool comments.
I had a pretty successful Chapters trip yesterday and bought a couple of books that I'm really looking forward to reading so I'll keep you updated on how those are coming along. I'm sure they'll be terrific! I love having time in the summer to read whatever books I want.
T-minus 12 days until Drag Me To Hell comes out! I cannot wait for this movie to come out! I'm not going to go into this movie expecting anything as amazing as Evil Dead, but I am hoping for great things! It looks like it has the same style of make-up effects as Evil Dead, which alone is enough for me to be excited about this movie.
And in (kind of) related news... I'm still not over the fact that I'll be missing Bruce Campbell at this year's Festival of Fear. I will meet him one day...
